Kids

We support over 13,500 disabled children, young people and their families every year by delivering over 120 services throughout England.

KIDS is unique; there is no other organisation dedicated to providing such an extensive range of services to disabled children and young people, aged 0-25 years, irrespective of their impairment or condition.

Mencap

Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.

Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.

Play Therapy Bedford

The key purpose is to provide therapeutic support for children and young people (3 +). Play and creative arts therapy can help children to gain a better understanding of their emotions and feelings. It can help work through traumatic events, divorce, bullying, anxiety to name a few. I have a toolkit I use including art, clay, sand, puppets and music. A minimum of 12 sessions are recommended, though this depends on the level of need. Group sessions are available too.

SEND TRIBUNAL: Single Route of Redress – National Trial

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL TRIAL?

The Government are extending the powers of the First-tier Tribunal (SEND), sometimes referred to as the ‘SEND Tribunal’, to make non-binding recommendations about the health and social care aspects of Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans as part of a two-year trial. The trial will apply to decisions made or EHC plans issued/amended from 3 April 2018.

To date, you have only been able to appeal the educational aspects of EHC plans. The trial gives you new rights to request recommendations about the health and social care needs and provision specified in EHC plans, in addition to the educational aspects, when making a SEND appeal. This gives you the opportunity to raise all your concerns about an EHC plan in one place.

It is only possible for the Tribunal to consider the health and/or social care aspects of the EHC plan where you are already making an appeal in relation to the education aspects of the EHC plan and the education aspect must remain live throughout the appeal.

Visual Impairment Team

We work with people of all ages with a visual impairment whose sight cannot be corrected by glasses or medical treatment. The majority of our referrals come from local and national hospitals for registration purposes, but anyone can refer to us if they are experiencing difficulties with their vision.

After an assessment, we can offer a rehabilitation plan tailored to meet a person’s needs. This may include:

Instruction on how to complete daily living tasks such as cooking, making drinks, using the telephone, and writing
Mobility training to complete local routes independently
Appropriate specialist equipment
Sign posting to local and national VI services

We aim to provide specialist knowledge and support to ensure that people understand their eye condition, regain confidence and independence, and are aware of other services available to them.
