Cornerstone Family support group is especially for families needing extra support in the community. As part of this work we have a drop in morning on Thursdays during term time. Activities, refreshments, support and advice for parents whilst the children are cared for in our creche for up to 4 years of age.
The Dawn until Dusk Ltd is a before and after-school club based at Lakeview School. It is currently situated within a classroom on the site. Our classroom is a warm and inviting play space where children relax and play safely in a homely environment cared for by friendly approachable staff.
Our opening hours are from 7.30 am until 9am and 3.10pm until 6pm. We have free flow access to the playground directly outside our classroom, with a grassy surrounding area beyond and the use of purpose built wooden equipment for climbing, balancing, jumping and imaginative play.
Our vision for the club is to mirror the home environment as closely as possible. This is achieved by creating an inviting atmosphere with colourful upholstery and soft furnishings, providing an abundance of exciting things to explore, a home corner, free flow access to toys and games, quiet reading area, access to a comfy sofa and a creation station where wonderful things transpire with all manner of craft resources.
Every effort is made to ensure the setting is inclusive for all our children by recognising the importance of extra resource's to meet individual needs. Our club is accessible to all with toilets suitable for wheelchair users and large double doors providing easy access to the outside. For children where English is an additional language we have incorporated Polish flash cards, snap, phrase books, multicultural dolls, figurines and story books. Welcome signs are displayed in different languages and regular multicultural resource's audits are undertaken. The club offers a lending library enabling families to take our resource's home over the school holidays. Consistency is provided between home, school and the club for those children with special educational needs through discussions with teachers and parent/carers and sharing our own observations. We pride ourselves in getting to know each child for the individual they are.
I am a home from home setting where children can feel relaxed and comfortable. I provide a haven for those with additional needs, which include games, outings, and activities also a chilling space. I can provide one on one care, also can accommodate siblings. I am able to provide overnight care for up to 3 children. I can care for all age groups. I am available to work weekends as well as week days, shift work, long or short term care. I am flexible where ever possible.
Holiday clubs are held at Unit 5 Britannia Estate, Leagrave Road, Luton, Beds , LU3 1RJ. Holiday clubs are a lifeline to families and offer practical support, a range of creative, stimulating and FUN activities for children and young people within a safe non-judgmental environment. Activities include: play equipment and sensory equipment, plus IT and games equipment, workshops, messy play, drama and music, reptile shows and lots of other FUN activities.
The Link Project helping young people with a disability or learning need/s to access peer friendship by take part in activities in their communities. Once a month two volunteers will take the young person out accessing transport and learning everyday life skills while having fun.
FUNlands Youth Club is held on a Monday night term time only at Unit 5, Britannia Estate, Leagrave Road, Luton, Beds , LU3 1RJ. FUNlands runs 6.30pm till 8.30 pm for young people aged 10 - 17 years old with additional needs/disabilities.
FUN Young Adult Club
FUN young adult for 18 – 25 years old on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm – 8.30pm for young adults with additional needs (term time only). This is a safe environment for Young adults with learning disabilities to meet, socialise and take part in activities with their friends.
Saturday Club is a full short break service offering young people with disabilities aged 10 – 25 years 1:1 support whilst accessing on and off site activities. Keech Swim - FUN hires Keech Hospice Hydrotherapy pool fortnightly offering families a swim session for those that need the sensory and stimulation of lights and the warmer water.
Hart Hill Adventure Playground - FUN exclusively hires Hart Hill Adventure Playground in partnership with Autism Beds and Fab Friendz. These sessions are a great activity for families.
Individual Needs Protocol at Great Ouse Primary Academy (GOPA)
• Monitor and overview progress as well as assessing the ‘whole child.’
• Whole child is assessed under:
• Cognitive and learning – this description applies to children whose learning difficulties mean that they learn at a slower pace than their peers even with appropriate differentiation. Learning difficulties covers a wide range of needs. They can be specific such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia or cover all areas learning.
• Social emotional and mental health difficulties – this will include disorders such as attention deficit disorder as well social and emotional difficulties which can manifest themselves in different ways.
• Communication and interaction– this will include children who have speech, language and communication needs and have difficulty in communicating with others. This also includes children for whom social interaction is difficult.
• Sensory and/or physical needs – this covers children who require special educational provision because they have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making full use of the educational facilities generally provided within a school.
• These are further assessed under the ‘Waves of Learning.’
Our babies are cared for in a cosy, warm and soothing environment, providing activities which stimulate their senses using textured materials and a wide variety of toys, water, sand play and music.
Our older 0-3 toddlers have access to two spacious rooms providing exploratory activities such as playdough, cooking, threading, puzzles, mark making, small world, sharing stories, singing, homecorner, art & craft, water, sand and painting.
Within our pre school our environment encourages the children to explore sand and water play, role-play, cooking, art & craft, woodwork, mark making, mathematical concepts, construction, threading, board games, musical instruments, ICT, books, story sacks and singing.
Our after school children are collected from three local schools by a member of staff in our people carrier and taken back to the club. There they have the opportunity to complete homework in a quiet designated area, 'chill' at the snack bar, relax listening to music or reading books or play a game until home time at 6pm. During the school holidays a program of activities is devised that include both planned and spontaneous activities. Regular features indoors include: playing games, art & craft, cookery, music, role play, design technology and games consoles. Outdoor activities include football, rounders, spare parts play and team building games.
We support over 13,500 disabled children, young people and their families every year by delivering over 120 services throughout England.
KIDS is unique; there is no other organisation dedicated to providing such an extensive range of services to disabled children and young people, aged 0-25 years, irrespective of their impairment or condition.
We have a clear plan for children and young people in settings and schools so that we can identify early SEND needs and provide support through a process of good planning and reviewing. To this end we have produced two Graduated Response documents which outline and provide a clear message about responsibilities for early identification of need and what can be done to ensure plans are in place to support children and pupils with additional needs.
