We support over 13,500 disabled children, young people and their families every year by delivering over 120 services throughout England.
KIDS is unique; there is no other organisation dedicated to providing such an extensive range of services to disabled children and young people, aged 0-25 years, irrespective of their impairment or condition.
East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) provides mental health services for people in Bedfordshire.
The service has been commissioned by Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BCCG), in partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council and Bedford Borough Council.
We are committed to the ongoing development of mental health and learning disability services.
The key purpose is to provide therapeutic support for children and young people (3 +). Play and creative arts therapy can help children to gain a better understanding of their emotions and feelings. It can help work through traumatic events, divorce, bullying, anxiety to name a few. I have a toolkit I use including art, clay, sand, puppets and music. A minimum of 12 sessions are recommended, though this depends on the level of need. Group sessions are available too.
Our centres offer a place for disabled people with complex communication needs to build connections by developing communication skills and independence, meeting other people, being creative with arts and crafts and taking part in sport and exercise – all supported by skilled, specialist staff.
The Speech and Language Therapy team provides assessment and therapy for communication and swallowing difficulties in adults, both inpatients and outpatients. We deal with a wide range of conditions including stroke, progressive conditions, dementia, cancer, head injury, voice problems and stammering. We offer a seamless service, in that the same team will see a patient across all settings, including domiciliary and care home visits.
We are based on the ground floor of Beeden House, reception C, at Bedford Hospital and have two treatment rooms for individual therapy and a group therapy room. All rooms are wheelchair accessible.
We are the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. Our national specialist centre is in Tadworth, Surrey, where we provide rehabilitation to children with acquired brain injury and specialist medical/transitional care to children with complex health needs. We also run The Children’s Trust School, a non-maintained residential special school in Tadworth for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex health needs. Our other services include expert community-based support for children with acquired brain injury and online support for families via our Brain Injury Hub website (www.braininjuryhub.co.uk)
