There are a number of organisations who will be able to support you further and provide more information advice guidance and support depending on your age and situation.
The SEND Team
Contact the Special Educational Needs and Disability team for any queries relating to Education Health and Care Plans, Personal Budgets or specialist provision.
There are two delivery partners offering support for parents: SEND Advice and Core Assets Independent Support Service.
SEND Advice (formerly Parent Partnership)
SEND Advice offers FREE confidential support for parents and carers of children with special educational needs.
Core Assets Independent Support Service
Core Assets Children’s Services has been commissioned by the Council for Disabled Children to deliver independent support to young people and their families in partnership with local Information, Advice and Support Services (IASS).
Independent Supporters within each local authority will assist parents and young people through the Education, Health and Care (EHC) planning process. They work in 27 local authorities across the UK to provide parents, carers and children with impartial information, help and support they need to progress through the new SEND assessment and planning process.
Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum
The Forum is a parent carer membership group that consults with parent carers to get their views of services and raises issues with service providers and commissioners at a strategic level. We have a steering group led by parents of children with SEN and disabilities who manage the work of the forum and provide parent representatives for strategic decision making committees who are able to represent the views of a wide range of parents. Any parent or carer of a child or young person with SEN or a disability aged 0 – 25 either living in or accessing services in Bedford Borough can be a member of the forum.
Bedford Borough Family Information Service
Bedford Borough Family Information Service provides free and confidential information and advice to help parents, carers, children, young people and professionals working with families find the services they need. They provide impartial advice and guidance around childcare, early years education.
