Elective Home Education Service

What our service does

The Elective Home Education Officer offers advice and support to families who are considering home educating their children or to families in Bedford Borough who already home educate to ensure that the children are receiving an education suitable for their age, aptitude and ability.


Location of our service

The Elective Home Education Officer is based at Borough Hall. Any family within the Local Authority who are home educating or considering home education can access the service.

All families of school age children who are considering, or who are already home educating.

There is an EHE leaflet with limited information. Bedford Borough Website has a dedicated listing for initial information,service users can contact and communicate by telephone, email and face to face meetings.


Accessibility of our service

Yes, based at Borough Hall or the Elective Home Education Officer can meet with a family at their home or another mutually convenient venue.


Qualifications and training of our staff

The Elective Home Education Officer is a trained teacher based within the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Team at Borough Hall. Safeguarding Training is up to date.
