Cornerstone Family Support Group

What our service does

Cornerstone Family support group is especially for families needing extra support in the community. As part of this work we have a drop in morning on Thursdays during term time. Activities, refreshments, support and advice for parents whilst the children are cared for in our creche for up to 4 years of age.

Location of our service

Woodside Church, Dover Crescent, Bedford, MK421 8QH

Who our service provides for

Anyone is eligible to attend our groups. We endeavour to accommodate disabilities the best we can in discussion with the parent. We welcome children outside of the normal age range if this meant their needs could be met appropriately. This would always be at the agreement of both the leaders and parents on an individual case basis.

How to start using our service

You can contact the Church direct to ask about any of our groups. All groups are free with the exception of Playpeople and Lighthouse. First session is often free.

Cornerstone has some referrals from social services, however others may attend. Please contact us to see if this group would help you.

How decisions are made about who can use our service

All groups are open to all, however the leaders of each group make the decisions about who can attend. Each leader would be pleased to discuss the suitability of a group with any parent who is interested in their child attending.

How we communicate with our service users

We invite service users to give us feedback through verbal means, or in writing to church leaders if there are major concerns. We have full information on our groups on our website and usually there are leaflets available for the program/activities of each group for that term on attending.

Cornerstone sometimes runs parent courses, depending on needs of the clients at any particular time.

Accessibility of our service

Woodside Church is fully accessible via public transport or car. There is a bus stop just outside our building and we have a few disabled parking bays. The building is fully accessible to wheel chair users, with a disabled toilet and changing facilities. We have a hearing loop in our main meeting hall and a lift to allow the disabled full access to the building. We would be most willing to talk to parents on an individual basis as to how we could help a child or young person access all of the activities of a group.

Qualifications and training of our staff

We don't have any specialist staff or training for supporting children with SEND, however we have a full safeguarding policy and training policy/program for all our volunteers.
