How we support your child's learning

• Friendly small school environment
• Smaller than average class sizes
• Children’s progress tracked carefully and reviewed with SENDco half termly.
• Open door policy, all staff available to talk to parents
• Class teachers are on the playground at the beginning and end of day
• Termly curriculum newsletters from class teachers
• Face to face meetings each term and a detailed written report in the summer
• Curriculum events for parents
• Parents of children with SEND invited to attend termly face to face meetings with class teacher to discuss specific objectives and progress towards targets

How we identify SEN

• Small class sizes, teachers have a good understanding of the children
• Accurate and regular monitoring of pupil progress
• Class teachers meet with SENDco every half term to discuss any concerns
• Positive relationship with parents
• Parents involved in target setting for children with SEND
• Open door policy, SENDco available to talk to parents and to discuss any queries they may have


How we support your child/young person

• Experienced SENDco monitors the provision and supports staff
• Link governor for SEND monitors provision with the Headteacher


How we match the curriculum to your child's needs

• Experienced teachers adapt to the needs of individuals through regular assessment
• Engagaing creative curriculum
• Small classes enable us to tailor learning to the needs of the individual
• Support staff trained in various interventions for Literacy and Numeracy, including dyslexia
• SENDco trained in counselling skills and provides interventions for social and emotional needs.

The expertise we have access to

• Classroom staff are trained in Fisher Literacy support, Numicon Numeracy support and Sounds Write phonics programme
• SENDco is trained in counselling skills and provides emotional and behavioural support and interventions to pupils
• School receives support from a link Educational Psychologist
• Support accessed from Bedford Borough Behaviour support services, CHUMS, CAMHS, British Dyslexia Association, Health services


How we include your child in extra curricular activities

• School will support children to access all activities
• Any children with specific needs will be supported and this will be discussed with parents
• Before and After School Group is provided by Turvey Pre-School (Please contact them for further information)


How we prepare your child to join us or transfer to another setting

• Experienced SENDco supports children, parents and teachers with transfer arrangements
• Children well supported, based on individual needs
• Children supported with additional visits to new settings
• SENDCo liases with new SENDco to ensure a smooth transition
• Direct handover of information via SENDco’s with parents approval
• Follow up visit by Turvey Lower Staff to ensure child has settled


How we match our resources to your child

• SENDco works with School Leadership team and class teachers to address individual needs.
• Regular communication with parents, fully involved
• Budget allocated dependent on individual need
• Termly reviews of all support which includes staff, pupils and parent


How we involve parents

• Friendly, welcoming small school with an open door policy
• Small class sizes means staff know pupils and parents well
• Staff available to speak to parents on the playground on a daily basis
• Regular contact with parents, includes questionnaires/surveys
• Termly ‘governor surgeries’ where parents can discuss things with governors
• Termly reviews of all pupils with additional needs which includes staff, pupils and parents

• Discussion with children when support and interventions are being planned
• Children involved in target setting and reviews
