How we identify SEN

The requirement of extra help is identified through the following; this list is not exhaustive:

• Transition Liaison with previous schools
• CATs Testing to ascertain entry levels
• Diagnostic screening testing/ Specialist tester for Exam entries
• Collaboration with teaching staff
• Tracking of progress
• Liaison with external agencies i.e., Psychology, CAMH, EWO, Social Care

If you have any concerns about your child contact your child’s tutor who will communicate with the SEND team.

How we support your child/young person

• Differentiation of work in the classroom

• Team of LSAs, many of whom are specialist in various fields; i.e., ASC, VI, HI

The support we give to your child's well being

• Dedicated SEN area for supported work
• Sanctuary with SRN Nurse/School Doctor allows access to the curriculum whilst ill/struggling
• School nurse has active role in transition, all medication stored and accessed in Sanctuary.
• Heads of Year/Assistant Heads of Year for all years
• Restorative Justice/reconciliations allow students to meet with staff after incident and discuss ways to move forward.
• Counselling services within school
• All pupils follow a structured PSHCEE curriculum
• Academic and Social extra-curricular clubs in Learning Hub

The expertise we have access to

Within the SEND team we currently have 9 Learning Support Assistants with various levels of experience and specialism including ASC, VI, HI, Speech and Language. In addition the school offers

How we include your child in extra curricular activities

• Support staff will be used as required
• Parents can be involved (subject to relevant tests)
• Access to SEN area at 7.30, lunchtime and afterschool. Staff on duty to support at all times.

How we prepare your child to join us or transfer to another setting

• Transition process with Bedford College/Apprenticeships/Other Colleges
• Open Sixth Form with close sharing on information as students progress through

How we match our resources to your child

• SEN team work closely with parents, the Local Authority SEND team, and outside agencies to look at resources needed.

How we involve parents

• School works closely with parents in all aspects of school life and welcome their input.
• School Forum openly welcomes parental involvement

How we include your child in the planning of their support

• Student involved in all reviews and their views sought and shared in all meetings held throughout the year.
